About the Artist
Jaecyne Howell, the eyes behind PhotographybyJaecyne.com and MoonRisingNYC.com, is not only a photographer, she is a folklorist, revealing her passionate story through her camera’s lens. She draws on her experience as a formally-trained actress and dancer to cultivate a photography style that captures the very essence of the human spirit. Her attention to detail and authenticity is what allows her to reflect what she calls “the motion of emotion.”
Though Jaecyne is a recent addition to the craft, she has already drawn thousands of people from all over the world to her website, MoonRisingNYC.com. MoonRisingNYC.com exhibits many of her exquisite photos, including a series that covers the excitement and vivaciousness of the underground house music scene. Based out of New York, she has traveled to Miami's Winter Music Conference, Ministry of Sound in London, and the U.K.’s preeminent house music event, The Southport Weekender, documenting the story of the true diversity of a hidden phenomenon.
“When on a shoot, I am looking for someone’s soul. I’m looking for abandon. I love moving through the crowd, watching people lose themselves in the moment, the music...witnessing their bodies become instruments of a higher being and documenting the truth of it. I am humbled and privileged to witness the liberation.” Those who have worked with Ms. Howell know that her sensitivity, warm heart, vibrant personality and ability to connect with others are many of the reasons her photos are so rich. She gives people permission to be beautifully themselves in their humanity.
Her photos have appeared in Billboard Magazine, Vibe Magazine, Spin.com, Haute Living, GiantStep.net, Time Out New York, Dance Spirit and the U.K.’s Our House Magazine, International DJ Magazine and Faith Strobelight Honey . Jaecyne is also the official photographer for the Southport Weekender, Our House Magazine and Giant Step. At her photography studio in New York, she continues to hone a craft that embraces her as tightly as she has embraced its gift.
